Adiba Jaigirdar writes contemporary young adult romance about queer teenagers, friendship, family expectations and Bangladeshi or South Asian identity in Ireland. The Henna Wars follows Nishat, who comes out to her Muslim family and then finds herself competing with classmate Flávia when both start henna businesses for a school project. Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating pairs two Bangladeshi girls with very different social lives in a pretend relationship that gradually becomes less pretend. A Million to One shifts into historical adventure, following a group of young women attempting a heist aboard the Titanic. Jaigirdar's contemporary novels are funny, quick and character-led, but family, racism and cultural belonging remain substantial parts of the plot rather than background.
