In the Dark starts when a woman and child are found imprisoned in a cellar, while No Way Out centres on a fatal house fire. Later books use police interviews, news reports, maps, messages and other document-like material alongside conventional narration, giving the investigations a clipped, multi-source feel. Murder in the Family is a standalone built around a true-crime television programme revisiting an old killing.
