Dave McKean creates graphic novels, illustration and visual storytelling that mix drawing, painting, collage, photography and digital manipulation. Arkham Asylum, written by Grant Morrison, uses fragmented page design and grotesque imagery to turn Batman's visit to the asylum into a psychological nightmare. Cages is McKean's major long-form work as writer and artist, following artists, musicians and neighbours through linked stories about creativity, belief and relationships. He also illustrated Neil Gaiman's The Sandman covers, The Wolves in the Walls and other books for younger readers, while Black Dog approaches the dreams and trauma of First World War artist Paul Nash.
