Great Debates in Land Law, co-written with Lorna Fox O’Mahony and Neil Cobb, moves beyond black-letter rules to ask questions about leases, land registration, squatting, mortgages, equality and rights to the home. Cowan’s wider work also examines housing regulation, ownership and the relationship between legal doctrine and public policy. His books are academic but deliberately argumentative, encouraging law students to compare competing interpretations rather than memorise rules in isolation.
