David Wong is the former pen name of Jason Pargin, used on the early editions of the John Dies at the End books and other work. John Dies at the End follows David and his friend John after exposure to a strange drug called Soy Sauce opens their perception to monsters, alternate realities and threats that are both horrifying and absurd. This Book Is Full of Spiders and What the Hell Did I Just Read continue the series with the same mixture of cosmic horror, grotesque comedy and deliberately unreliable narration. Pargin also writes the Zoey Ashe science-fiction novels under his own name, but catalogue records may still list the earlier books as David Wong. The work is fast, vulgar, surreal and plot-heavy, with jokes often interrupting or intensifying the horror.
