Emmanuel Guibert writes and draws graphic non-fiction as well as children's comics. Alan's War records the memories of American veteran Alan Cope, following his Second World War service and later life through restrained drawings and long stretches of remembered conversation. The Photographer, created with Didier Lefèvre and Frédéric Lemercier, combines comics with Lefèvre's photographs from a Médecins Sans Frontières mission in Afghanistan during the Soviet war. Guibert also co-created the children's series Sardine in Outer Space. His documentary work is patient and conversational, allowing ordinary details to sit beside war and displacement. It fits graphic memoir, war comics, documentary comics and illustrated oral history. Read more Less
