Gloria Anzaldúa wrote feminist and queer theory, poetry and hybrid prose about borders, language, race and identity. Borderlands/La Frontera combines autobiography, cultural criticism, poetry and switches between English and Spanish to describe the US-Mexico border as both a physical region and a psychological or cultural condition. She also co-edited This Bridge Called My Back with Cherríe Moraga, bringing together writing by women of colour on feminism, race and class. Anzaldúa's work is formally hybrid and politically direct.
