James D. G. Dunn wrote New Testament scholarship on Paul, Jesus, early Christianity and the development of Christian belief. Jesus Remembered, the first volume of Christianity in the Making, examines what can be historically recovered about Jesus and how oral memory shaped the earliest traditions. Beginning from Jerusalem continues into the first Christian communities, while The Theology of Paul the Apostle offers a large thematic study of Paul's letters. Dunn was also closely associated with the New Perspective on Paul, especially arguments about Judaism, law and justification that challenged older Protestant readings. His prose is academic but generally structured for sustained reading rather than specialist reference alone.
