Jeff Kinney writes and illustrates children's comedy, best known for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The books are presented as Greg Heffley's journal, combining handwritten-style text with simple cartoons as he records school, family life, friendships and his repeated attempts to improve his social position with as little effort as possible. Greg's friendship with Rowley Jefferson and his conflicts with brothers Rodrick and Manny provide recurring storylines, while each volume builds comedy from ordinary problems such as holidays, sports, school projects and embarrassing parents. The books are quick to read and strongly visual, with much of the humour coming from the gap between Greg's version of events and what the illustrations suggest actually happened. They fit illustrated children's fiction, school stories and comic diaries alongside writers such as Tom Gates creator Liz Pichon and Dav Pilkey. Read more Less
