Syllabus develops those ideas through pages drawn from Barry’s teaching notes, and Making Comics turns classroom methods into prompts for drawing, noticing and inventing characters. Her long-running Ernie Pook’s Comeek introduced figures such as Marlys and Maybonne and established the loose, expressive visual style behind the later books. Barry’s work is funny, raw and deliberately handmade rather than polished into conventional graphic-novel realism.
