Britannia Mews traces a woman who rejects her family’s plans and builds a life in a less respectable London neighbourhood, while The Nutmeg Tree turns motherhood and social performance into comedy. Sharp also created The Rescuers, a children’s series about mice organising daring missions to help imprisoned people. Her prose is brisk, elegant and funny without being cosy in every case.
