Mary Dicken writes history textbooks and revision guides for secondary and A Level students, often in collaboration with Nicholas Fellows. Her books include OCR A Level History: England 1485–1603 and revision guides on the Early Stuarts and the origins of the Civil War, as well as work on the Crusades and local history. The writing is organised around curriculum questions, timelines, historical interpretations and exam practice rather than a continuous popular-history narrative. Dicken’s experience as a history teacher is reflected in the emphasis on manageable topic sections and the transition from knowledge to written argument. Dicken’s Tudor and Stuart books are especially useful for A Level students who need concise historical explanation followed immediately by the skills required to turn that knowledge into an assessed argument.
