Philip Reeve writes children's and young adult science fiction and fantasy distinguished by inventive worlds, black humour and fast-moving adventure. Mortal Engines begins in a future where entire cities move on tracks and hunt smaller settlements for resources, following Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw after they are thrown out of London and discover the politics behind Municipal Darwinism. Predator's Gold, Infernal Devices and A Darkling Plain continue the sequence, while Fever Crumb returns to an earlier period in the same world. Reeve also created the comic space-adventure series Larklight and, with illustrator Sarah McIntyre, the younger-reader series beginning with Oliver and the Seawigs.
