Tim LaHaye is best known in fiction as the co-author, with Jerry B. Jenkins, of the Left Behind series. Beginning with Left Behind, the novels imagine a sudden Rapture in which millions of people disappear, leaving airline pilot Rayford Steele, journalist Buck Williams and others to interpret world events through an evangelical Christian reading of biblical prophecy. The series expands into global political conflict, the rise of the Antichrist and events associated with the Tribulation. LaHaye also wrote extensive Christian non-fiction on marriage, prophecy and religious life, so his catalogue is not limited to novels. The fiction is direct, plot-driven and explicitly theological. Left Behind is best approached specifically as evangelical Christian apocalyptic fiction, where biblical prophecy and end-times interpretation are the organising framework of the plot. Read more Less
