Yana Toboso writes and draws manga best known for Black Butler. The series follows young aristocrat Ciel Phantomhive in Victorian England and his demon butler Sebastian Michaelis, who serves him under a supernatural contract while Ciel investigates crimes and conspiracies for the Crown. Individual arcs move through circuses, schools, ships and aristocratic households while gradually revealing more about Ciel's past and the contract binding him to Sebastian. Toboso's artwork is detailed and gothic, while the story mixes dark comedy, mystery and supernatural action. Her work fits shōnen manga, gothic mystery and Victorian supernatural fiction with a long-running master-and-servant relationship at the centre.
