Stephen Booth's Cooper and Fry series follows Derbyshire police detectives Ben Cooper and Diane Fry, colleagues whose contrasting backgrounds and temperaments shape their investigations in the Peak District. Black Dog introduces the pair through the disappearance of a young woman, while Dancing with the Virgins, Blood on the Tongue and later novels continue new cases alongside changes in their careers and uneasy working relationship. Publication order is recommended for that continuing development. The books are British police procedurals with a strong rural setting, using isolated farms, villages, caves and difficult weather as practical parts of investigations rather than simply scenery.
