Edward Packard's Choose Your Own Adventure books put the reader in the role of the main character and repeatedly ask what should happen next. A choice sends you to a different numbered section, so one book can lead to several routes and multiple endings, including success, failure or sudden disaster. Packard's titles in the original Bantam series range from time travel and underwater exploration to space, mysteries and the Wild West. Each book is independent, so there is no reading order and it is easy to start with The Cave of Time or any setting that appeals.
