Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series follows Los Angeles detective Hieronymus 'Harry' Bosch, a persistent investigator whose cases often bring him into conflict with colleagues, institutions and his own past. The Black Echo begins the series, and later novels track substantial changes in Bosch's career while recurring characters from Connelly's wider crime fiction increasingly cross into his cases. Each book has a central investigation, so individual novels can work alone, but publication order gives a much stronger sense of Bosch ageing, changing jobs and building relationships. The books are police procedurals with close attention to evidence, interviews and the geography of Los Angeles rather than puzzle mysteries. Readers who want long-term character continuity alongside a new serious crime in each volume should start at the beginning. Read more Less
