Dan Simmons's Hyperion Cantos begins with seven pilgrims travelling to the Time Tombs on Hyperion, each telling the story that brought them there while the mysterious Shrike waits ahead. Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion form the first continuous arc; Endymion and The Rise of Endymion begin a second story centuries later and build on the consequences of the first. They are best read in publication order, with the shorter Orphans of the Helix saved until afterwards.
