Colin Dexter's Inspector Morse novels follow Oxford detective Endeavour Morse and Sergeant Lewis as they investigate murders shaped by misleading evidence, private secrets and Morse's own tendency to form strong theories before all the facts are known. Last Bus to Woodstock begins the thirteen-book sequence, which ends with The Remorseful Day. The cases are largely self-contained, but publication order gives the clearest sense of Morse and Lewis's working relationship and of Morse's changing health and circumstances.
