Anthony Ryan's Raven's Shadow trilogy follows Vaelin Al Sorna, who is placed as a boy in the Sixth Order and trained for a life of warfare in service to the Faith. Blood Song concentrates closely on Vaelin's training and rise, while Tower Lord and Queen of Fire widen the story to several viewpoints as war spreads across kingdoms. The three books form one continuous narrative and should be read in order. Readers who especially enjoy the focused coming-of-age structure of the first volume should expect the later books to become broader military fantasy, with more politics, campaigns and characters away from Vaelin himself.
