Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series follows Richard Sharpe, a soldier who rises through the British Army during the wars of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Sharpe's Tiger begins the internal chronology in India, followed by Sharpe's Triumph and Sharpe's Fortress before later books carry him into the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. Because Cornwell wrote the novels out of chronological order, readers can choose publication order or follow Sharpe's military career chronologically. The books combine historical warfare, campaigning and personal rivalry, with close attention to battlefield tactics and the social barriers faced by an officer promoted from the ranks. Read more Less
