Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley High series follows identical twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield, teenagers living in the fictional Californian town of Sweet Valley. Although they look alike, the sisters have contrasting personalities, and the books build stories around school, friendships, dating, rivalry and family problems involving the twins and their wider circle at Sweet Valley High. Individual volumes usually have a main problem of their own, but relationships and consequences carry across the series, so starting with Double Love gives the best introduction. The books are fast-moving young adult dramas with a strong soap-opera element, mixing romance with occasional mystery and more serious situations.
