Martha Wells's Books of the Raksura follow Moon, a shape-shifter who has spent much of his life hiding what he is before discovering the Raksura, a winged people with complex social structures and family groups. The Cloud Roads, The Serpent Sea and The Siren Depths establish Moon's place within the Indigo Cloud court, while The Edge of Worlds and The Harbors of the Sun continue the story after two collections of shorter fiction. The main novels are best read in publication order. Wells builds the Three Worlds without relying on standard human kingdoms or familiar fantasy species, so much of the pleasure comes from learning how its societies and ecosystems work.
