Stephen King's The Dark Tower follows Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger, as he travels across Mid-World in search of the Dark Tower, a place tied to the stability of many worlds. What begins as a strange western quest in The Gunslinger grows into a much broader story as Roland gathers companions and the series moves between fantasy, horror, western and contemporary settings. The main sequence is continuous and should be read in order from The Gunslinger to The Dark Tower. The Wind Through the Keyhole was published later but takes place between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla, so it can be read in that position or after the main seven books. The tone and structure change considerably across the series, and connections to other Stephen King novels become more noticeable as the story expands. Read more Less
