Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion trilogy follows John Daker, a man repeatedly drawn from his ordinary existence to become Erekosë, a warrior expected to fight in conflicts whose moral divisions prove far less simple than he is first told. The Eternal Champion, Phoenix in Obsidian and The Dragon in the Sword form a connected sequence and are best read in order. Erekosë is one incarnation of Moorcock's wider Eternal Champion idea, linking the trilogy conceptually with characters such as Elric without making those other series required reading.
