Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy follows FitzChivalry Farseer, the illegitimate son of a royal prince who is raised at Buckkeep and trained to serve the crown as an assassin. Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest form one continuous story as Fitz becomes entangled in royal succession, war and two different forms of magic. The trilogy should be read in order, and it also provides the starting point for the wider Realm of the Elderlings sequence. Hobb keeps the story close to Fitz's first-person viewpoint, so political events are experienced through his loyalties, mistakes and often painful personal relationships rather than from a detached epic perspective.
