Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Chronicles return to Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater before the main Riyria Revelations story and show earlier stages of their partnership. The Crown Tower explains how the two very different men first meet, The Rose and the Thorn follows an early job, and later books such as The Death of Dulgath, The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter and Drumindor give them largely self-contained adventures. Publication order works well, but the later Chronicles are designed to stand more independently than Revelations. They keep the same mix of sword-and-sorcery adventure, mystery and banter while filling in history that the original series only mentioned. Read more Less
