Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time is a long epic fantasy centred on Rand al'Thor and a large group of characters drawn into the struggle against the Dark One. What begins with young people leaving the village of Emond's Field expands into a story involving nations, armies, prophecy, the One Power and competing political and magical factions. The main sequence is continuous and should be read from The Eye of the World onwards. Jordan wrote the first eleven main novels; after his death, Brandon Sanderson completed the final three from Jordan's notes. The books become broader and more complex as the cast separates into multiple storylines, so this is a substantial commitment rather than a set of standalone adventures.
