Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher books follow Geralt of Rivia, a professionally trained monster hunter whose work repeatedly draws him into human politics, war and the fate of the young princess Ciri. The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are linked short-story collections and provide the best introduction before the five-novel saga beginning with Blood of Elves. Season of Storms is a later side novel set around the earlier stories, while Crossroads of Ravens returns to a younger Geralt before much of the established sequence. The books mix folklore-based monsters with political fantasy, dry dialogue and moral choices in which the human problem is often harder than the creature Geralt was hired to kill. Read more Less
